Camp Harbor View opens on Long Island.

It is located on the former site of Fort Strong on Long Island A summer camp serves some 800 Boston young people and provides year-round support for their families, it a partnership between the city and private businesses that is operated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston. It was founded by Jack Connors, who allegedly told Mayor Tom Menino, “If you give me 20 acres for $1 a year, I’ll get you a camp for kids in the city and raise $10 million to build it.”
